ABOUT

Young Life leaders go into local schools and meet kids there, spending 6-8 hours a week simply ‘with’ kids… learning names, eating lunch, going to games and choir concerts in an effort to build a friendship and ‘earn the right to be heard. They seek to get the chance to invite that kid to a club, then camp, then bible study and church.

Discovery wants to ensure that between the work of Discovery Youth and Young Life, every kid at Legacy High School and Westlake Middle School has a chance to be invited not only to a program but into a relationship.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Young Life is a volunteer driven organization that invites folks to both lead kids directly and ALSO to help lead leaders! We are looking for 8 folks from the Discovery community to serve on our Mission Community of adults who support the leaders and families at Legacy High and Westlake Middle. We are looking for an additional 8 folks to serve working directly with kids as Young Life leaders at those same schools. What we have noticed over time is that as we meet kids and their families who are often not connected to a church, as the kids come to know Jesus, they want to get plugged into a local church. Often, the first church they’ll go to is the church their leader attends. Join these already vibrant teams and help continue the work of both Discovery and Young Life as we seek to see the kingdom grow in our community!

The incarnation is one of the most scandalous elements of Christian Theology. God moved into the neighborhood!! It’s that style of ministry that we get to be a part of as we GO INTO the local schools to meet unchurched teenagers on their turf and put God into their language.

I love coming to Young Life because its a day during the week where you could just be yourself and don’t have to worry about people judging you and you also build a closer relationship with your friends and Jesus.
— Art, junior at Thornton High
I lead because I love kids and want to give them a place to be themselves and be heard with out judgement. Showing up in there lives demonstrates Jesus and allows me to serve him by serving them!
— Stacy, Leader at Young Life
I decided to become a Young Life leader because I want these kids to know just how loved and special they are. Life isn’t easy, so it’s important to surround yourself with people who build you up and support you even when they don’t always agree. And I wanted to be someone the girls could talk to about anything and know that someone was in their corner, ready to help them navigate this crazy world.
— Suzanne, Leader at Young Life
