ABOUT

Whiz Kids’ mission is to help disadvantaged elementary and middle school kids improve their lives through academic tutoring, positive mentoring relationships, and spiritual nurture. Students are placed in one-to-one relationships with volunteers who are trained to provide literacy, math and homework help to low-income students who struggle academically.

Whiz Kids has been serving students in Broomfield for the past eight years. We are currently tutoring 19 students from Mountain View Elementary School on Tuesday evenings. We have amazing tutors who do an incredible job with our kids. These kids learn and have fun at the same time. During the last half hour of our time together, the kids hear stories about Jesus and how much he loves them. We look forward to your continued partnership and support as we share the love of Jesus with our kids.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE

You can volunteer as a tutor to help a student improve academic skills while building a one on one relationship at the same time. You can also encourage your student to learn about the love of Jesus as you interact during Club Time, the last half hour of each session. Broomfield currently has one site that meets weekly at 6:30 pm on Tuesdays.

When I started tutoring I was only helping out a friend out that needed tutors to help more kids. He was passionate AND persistent! (Believe me, he was persistent!). Now, after seeing so many kids gain confidence and skills, I appreciate the mission of Whiz Kids. Does it tax my educational knowledge? Hardly! I listen to him read for 20 to 30 minutes each week and then we have several math games that hone that skill. Some weeks it’s the best 2 hours that I can give!

god’s movement at whiz kids

As one of the kids was leaving after a Whiz Kids session, he looked at Cindy and announced, ‘Thanks for all you guys do for us!’
The parent of one of our students reported that after a Christmas party, her daughter slept with her Christmas gifts she received, including the books that were gifted to her though Advent Conspiracy at Discovery.
During the acting out of the Christmas story, one of our boys, who was playing a shepherd shouted as he left to go back to his sheep, ‘I found God!’
